Meaningful Memorial Addition

Meaningful projects come along every once in a while.  We had the opportunity to work in the existing memorial garden, dedicated to the homeowners’ daughter, over the last several years.  We added a large swamp white oak, plantings under the birches, and an extensive drainage system under the existing memorial garden.  A large outdoor space, complete with an outdoor kitchen was planned, but the couple decided an extended patio and firepit would be perfect for their family gatherings.

The original and final plans worked around a large existing magnolia near the house, as well as some other nearby gardens.  The sitting wall compliments the existing drystacked stone wall in the garden, and a gas line was added to the fire pit area for ease of lighting.   The Belgard Mega Bergerac paver laid on a 45 degree angle creates a large space for entertaining, while the balloon at the path from the driveway to the new patio emphasizes the memorial garden.  Natural limestone curbing was added as a detail to hold in the mulch and plantings in an existing bed. Landscape lighting brings the garden to life at night.  The view from the patio is unobstructed to the peaceful and beautiful memorial garden.
